Andrew Layne,
Director

Bio

Andrew Layne is currently in his fourth year as director of the Roane County High School Band Program. A native of Kingston and 2014 graduate of RCHS, Mr. Layne received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2018 and his Master of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2020. Prior to teaching at Roane County, Mr. Layne worked as an intern for Maryville City Schools, a brass repair technician at Lunsford’s Musical Instruments, and Director of Bands at Oneida Middle and High School. Mr. Layne is an active member of ETSBOA, NAfME, and TMEA.

Julia Stewart,
Assistant Director

Bio:

Julia Stewart has been the Band Director at Cherokee Middle School and Assistant Band Director at Roane County High School since 2022. She holds both her bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. For her duration at UTK, Ms. Stewart played trombone with the Pride of the Southland Marching Band, Orange and White Pep Bands, UT Basketball Pep Band, various concert bands and the UT Trombone Choir. Ms. Stewart is an active member of ETSBOA, NAfME and TMEA.

The RCHS Band Program serves students in grades 9 - 12 and is built on a tradition of excellence and the belief that every student can find a place.

The RCHS Band has achieved an extraordinary record of excellence in many aspects of band competition, including marching, concert, small ensemble, and individual student achievement.

Competitions

The RCHS Marching Band was invited to compete in the 2023 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Band Competition. This was a great honor and their work ethic, dedication, behavior, and preparation for this event showed in their performances. They were up against bands from all over the country and of all different styles, and they achieved tremendous honors!

2023 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Band Competition:

  • Field Competition – Second Place, Gold Rating

  • Concert Band – Second Place, Silver Rating

  • Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Parade – Third Place, Gold Rating

  • The “Esprit de Corp” Award… all the judges selected our band as the band that has displayed the highest character, teamwork, and spirit among its members, directors, and chaperones!!

2023-2024 Marching Season
